Islamic legislation on foods

Audhu biLlahi minish shaitaanir Rajeem, Bismillahir Rahmonir Raheem Allah{SWT} says:"Eat the lawful and good things out what is in the earth"(Qrn 2:168). This rule which is directed towards avoiding unlawful and unclean thing is supplanted by another equally important direction also of a general nature. Excess of Foods and Drinks ------------------ Allah{SWT} says: And eat and drink but be no immoderate, for He does not love the immoderate ones(Qrn 7:31). As we all know that overfeeding and underfeeding is harmful to our health. Types of food which are forbidded ------------------------------------ They are:- -Dead animal -Blood -The flesh of swine -And animals that slaughered other than name of Allah{SWT} Allah{SWT} says:"O belivers! Eat of the wholesome thing we have provided you with, and give thanks to Allah{SWT} if you worship Him alone. He has forbidden yo to eat dead animals, Blood, The flesh of swine and What is slaughtered other than name of Allah; But if someone is compelled by absolute necessity, not desiring nor exceeding the limit, no sin shall be upon him: surely, Allah is forgiving, merciful(Qrn 2:172-173). Allah also says to Muhammed: "Say to your followers that:, I find not in that which is revealed to me anything forbidden for any one to eat except that is what dies of itself, or blood poured forth, or flesh of swine, for that is surely unlean, or what is a transgression, or what a name other than that of Allah{SWT} has been invoked"(Qrn 6:146). Carrion,D ead animal -------- That which dies of itself is explained further in Qrn 5:3 to include the following categories of animals: (a) The animals that dies of itself either as a result of disease, ill health or old age. (b) That which is strangled. (c) That whch is beaten to death. (d) That which dies through a fall from a height. (e) That which dies by being smitten in the horn. (f) That which dies by being devoured by beasts. () () Bible also forbids it(Lev 17:15) () Health regulations declare the above categories unclean and unsuitable for human consumption. The Quran, in forbidden them, cares for our health and therefore watches our interest. Blood ----- This is the blood which has been poured fourth, that is, the blnd which gushes out of animal either rough through an accidental cut or through slaughter. This is a practice by which such blood is collected, boiled and eaten. Allah fobids this by considering it unlean. Bible also forbids it.(Lev 7:26) Flesh of swine -------------- Not only the Qur an but also Law of Moses considers the swine as an unlean animal. Jesus also held this view, for he is reported to have cast out a number of unlean spirts which he then allowed to go into a herd of swine, causing the Lerd to perish thereby(Lev 11:7., Mathew 8:30-33., Mark 5:11-13). * Animal killed for idols ------------------------ The invocation of a name other than that of Allah at the time of slaughering an animal is considered a transgression of God's commandment, because by it one has associated a partner with God. Surely, this action makes a Muslim become an unbeliever. In this fourth category, it is the spiritual quality of a Muslim that is affected, whereas, in the first three categories, it is the health and the moral quality of Islam that are affected. We read also in Act of the Apostles(15:29) that believers are warned to abstain from these categories of food. 2. SLAUGHTERING OF ANIMALS The Qur'an requires that animals for food shall slaughtered and the purpose of slaughtering shall be made clear. People who are qualified to slaughter such animal shall be those who believe that Allah is one and do not associate any partner with Him. In this wise, the Jews and Christians come within this class. The Qur'an indicates this "This day, all good things are made lawful for you. The food of those who have been given the Book is lawful for you and your food is lawful for them"(Qrn 5:5). The Jews and Christian are those the Quran refers to as, People of Book.
